Evidence of Global Warming

It is no secret now that the Earth's climate has changed several times throughout history. Ice ages have come and gone, and the Earth has warmed and cooled several times. So what makes this period of warming so different. Here is some good evidence that shows that our Earth is warming. Many people believe (including scientists and climate researchers) that this warming is due to human activity.

Maybe it is a little bit of both though, human activity and natural patterns of climate change and natural fluctuations in weather trends. The fact remains that our planet's climate is changing and temperatures are increasing. Here is some solid evidence that proves that fact.

-The global sea level has risen about 6.7 inches in the last century. What is alarming is that in the last decade, the rate of increase is close to double that of the last century.

-Evidence clearly shows (through solid research) that the Earth has warmed since the year 1880. Evidence also shows that most of this warming has occurred since the 70's. In the year 2000 and upward the Earth saw a solar output decline which resulted in a deep solar minimum in 2007 to 2009, and still surface temperatures on our planet continue to rise.

-The oceans are warming too. The oceans on our planet are absorbing much of this extra heat. The tops of our oceans are showing warming of 0.302 degrees fahrenheit since 1969.

-Two important ice sheets (Greenland and Antarctic) have decreased in mass. Data shows that both have lost a tremendous amount of ice in recent years.

-Arctic sea ice is also in decline. Over the past several decades the extent and thickness of Arctic sea has decreased.

-Glaciers are receding just about everywhere around our planet.

-There is more and more extreme weather events happening worldwide. The amount of record high temperatures in the US is increasing, while record low temperatures is decreasing. The US is also seeing an increase in rainfall. With the increase in temperatures and the increase in rainfall, this causing havoc in our climate, more and more extreme weather is being observed in the US, Canada, and abroad.

-Ocean acidification has increased by a lot since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. The acidity of the surface of the ocean waters has increased by about 30 percent. Many researchers are convinced that this is due to carbon dioxide emissions humans are creating. More and more of this co2 is being absorbed by the oceans. The amounts of co2 being absorbed by the oceans is increasing every year.
