What Causes Global Warming?

Something known as the greenhouse effect and greenhouse gases are what we will first look at. A layer of greenhouse gases which is comprised of water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide act as a thermal blanket if you will for the Earth. This thermal blanket absorbs heat and warms the surface of the Earth to a life-supporting average of 59 degrees fahrenheit.

Many scientists and climatoligists will agree that the principal cause of global warming is the human expansion of the greenhouse effect. Because of humans the amount of heat being trapped in the atmosphere is rising causing the temperatures to rise.

You see there are certain gases in our atmosphere that prevent heat from escaping. As mentioned before those contributing gases are water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide and also chlorofluorocarbons.

Humans are changing the natural greenhouse of the Earth. By burning fossil fuels like oil, we are increasing the concentration of carbon dioxide. By doing this, the Earth's average temperature will rise, some regions of the Earth may welcome the warming while others will not.

Warmer temperatures will mean more evaporation and more precipitation overall, but some regions will vary, some becoming wetter and some dryer.

Carbon dioxide is one of the biggest contributing causes of global warming, however there are others such as methane.

Methane is an extremely potent greenhouse gas. There are many sources of methane on our planet. One such source of methane is on the arctic seabed, methane is escaping from the arctic seabed as we speak and that will increase the rate of global warming. More methane that is being released into our atmosphere means that global warming will increase.

Another important cause of global warming is deforestation. Humans use forests as fuel, for building, furniture, and other uses such as for paper. Forests remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and they store it, when we cut down trees we release a lot of the carbon that forests store.

One important cause of global warming that is sometimes overlooked is the use of chemical fertilizers on crops.

In the second half of the twentieth century the use of chemical fertilizers has risen dramatically. Humans are using nitrogen-rich fertilizers which have an effect on the heat storage of cropland. Nitrogen oxides have 300 times more heat-trapping capacity per unit of volume then co2.

Global warming is also caused by solar radiation in the form of light waves, that pass trough the earth's atmosphere. Most of this radiation is observed by the earth and warms it. But some of the solar energy is radiated out of the earth and into space and its turned into the form of infrared waves. Also some of this out going infrared radiation is trapped by the earths atmosphere and warms the earth again and again, and the atmosphere is being thickened by all of the earth's pollution that the whole world is causing.

Farming contributes to global warming and is one of the causes of global warming.
Animals, particularly sheep and cattle, produce large amounts of methane. Some fertilisers also release nitrous oxide, which is another greenhouse gas.
